Upcoming hazmat training classes for June 2009 are now available for enrollment

The Bureau of Dangerous Goods, Ltd. has upcoming training classes open to the public available throughout the month of June. If your hazmat training certification is about to expire, now is the time to register and enroll in an upcoming recurrent training program. Failure to do so can result in several penalties and fines enforced by the U.S. DOT or your local national authority. We also have initial hazmat training courses for new employees and those new to the dangerous goods shipping field.

ShipHazmat.net dangerous goods documentation and packaging Internet application provides affordable solution with full regulatory compliance

ShipHazmat.net is an Internet application for creating fully compliant dangerous goods documentation and packaging required to transport dangerous goods by aircraft internationally. This application is available worldwide with 24/7 login service for creating, storing and managing Shipper's Declarations of dangerous goods. Created by the Bureau of Dangerous Goods, Ltd., users provide key information of dangerous goods shipments into an user-friendly GUI on the Web. The application takes care of the rest.

Some features include:

• Handles overpacks and "all-packed-in-one" packages,
• Automatically calculates correct Q-value, when required,
• Checks for compatibility and segregation requirements,
• Displays applicable State and Operator variations,
• Displays emergency response information for applicable UN numbers,

With the inclusion of IATA 8.1.4.1.2 regarding electronic data processing (EDP) and electronic data interchange (EDI) in the 50th edition DGR, the Bureau of Dangerous Goods, Ltd. has developed HazLink, an online bridge for transferring dangerous goods shipment information from ShipHazmat.net to participating air carriers registered with Hazmat.net. This seamless electronic transfer provides instantaneous verification of dangerous goods shipments to be transported by aircraft, along with the generation of fully compliant NOTOC documentation with amazing speed and efficiency. NOTOCs can also be transmitted to first responders and emergency response personnel, who are provided with a full list of hazmat onboard along with the appropriate emergency response codes.

There are no installations required. No updates or patches to download when regulatory updates are released throughout the year. Program logic is based on IATA/ICAO regulatory guidelines and are updated seamlessly to the customer. Users can simply log in and begin using ShipHazmat.net knowing that their documentation will be fully compliant with all applicable regulations.

ShipHazmat.net is available for purchase online in two different flavors:

• Per-click - for the occasional user who ships dangerous goods less than 5 times per month, the per-click account allows customers to purchase credits that are deducted for each proper shipping name added to a completed declaration form. Each credit can be purchased for $14.95 USD.
• Annual membership - for the avid shipper of dangerous goods, our annual membership package includes several upgrades that are unavailable for per-click users. Based on a user license purchasing system, each account can have multiple users who share shipper, consignee and technical name databases for better productivity in the workplace. Users also have access to storing product codes, storing and managing default information to appear in various areas of a declaration form, and reloading past shipments to edit and reprint. The Bureau of Dangerous Goods, Ltd. also provides a PC version of ShipHazmat for customers who do not have a readily available Internet connection. The PC version can be purchased as a stand-alone software application or in a Local Area Network (LAN) configuration across several computers. Customers can also customize a "mix-and-match" bag of hazard classes/divisions based on their shipping needs for the stand-along version.

Hazmat training is required by law for all employees who work with and transport dangerous goods or hazardous materials

This is a friendly reminder that hazmat training is required by domestic and international law for all employees who work with and/or transport dangerous goods or hazardous materials by air, ground or ocean. The requirements for hazmat training are based on the specific mode of transportation used along with the job function(s) performed by the employee(s).

With regards to U.S. law, the employer/employee must adhere to the training requirements governed under 49 CFR, Subpart H regardless of job function and mode of transportation.

It is the employer's responsibility to make sure that employee(s) receives hazmat training. Employee(s) may not perform their job duties unless such training has been received. The employer can outsource hazmat training from a third party hazmat training provider. Employee(s) has 90 days from date of hire or change in job function to receive training, during which time can perform such duties under the direct supervision of a properly trained and knowledgable hazmat employee.

Employee(s) must be trained in the following areas:

• General awareness training
• Function-specific training
• Safety training
• Security training

Employers must keep training records for their employee(s) pertaining to their current training record along with the preceding three years. Such records must be kept for an additional 90 days after an employee leaves or is terminated.

HazLink provides electronic data processing EDP gateway between ShipHazmat and Hazmat applications for seamless shipper's declaration transfer

As an innovative global leader in technological solutions within the transportation industry for transporting dangerous goods/hazardous materials, the Bureau of Dangerous Goods has begun to introduce HazLink to the commercial population.

HazLink is a "cyber-bridge" that allows our online ShipHazmat® application to communicate seamlessly with our online Hazmat® application. This bridge provides the gateway for instantaneous electronic data processing/interchange (EDP, EDI) of dangerous goods shipment information between a shipper and air carrier.

We've been developing HazLink for years, once thought of only as a possible potential to increase efficiency and overall standardization of documentation. However, with IATA's release of the 50th edition DGR and the new inclusion of EDP transfers, our thoughts and dreams have pushed full steam into reality. HazLink allows dangerous goods shipment information to arrive in the form of a NOTOC to an air carrier's pilot even before the actual dangerous goods shipment leaves the dock facility of the shipper. The potential for efficiency increase seems exponential.

Our online ShipHazmat® application provides shippers of dangerous goods to be transported by air a simple way to prepare and create fully compliant Shipper's Declaration forms and packaging from any computer connected to the Internet anywhere around the world. Dangerous goods online hazmat training coming soon to a computer near you!

In a weakened economy, sending employees to an outside training course for a day or more becomes more costly than ever. You're not only spending money for tuition, but you also must factor in travel costs, possible hotel accommodations, meals and perhaps most notably, the decrease in productivity in your office because your employees are training somewhere else.
